Abstract:
Knowledge about materials plays an important role in many
engineering disciplines. We present a systematic account for
structuring this domain according to the concepts that have already
been developed in materials science. We focus specifically on
polymers since they are important for our application scenario. The
representation of our domain ontologies is performed by the use and
in the sense of Ontolingua. We also show how already existing
ontologies can be reused. With this basis our ultimate
goal---structuring a knowledge base of composites---is further
approached.
